Updated: Nov 14, 2023

Technology is an ever-evolving thing, just like humans. It will keep changing rapidly in the years ahead too. As a digital native, keeping up with tech is an uphill journey of learning, unlearning and relearning. But, nonetheless possible, if you are someone who is curious, determined and passionate enough about technology’s ever-changing nature.

In 2023, Generative AI took the world by storm, and there was continuous chatter about metaverse, 5G, human-like Bots, advanced wearable devices, etc. And, now we are moving towards 2024 with much more exciting tech coming your way.

In this article, we will discuss the tech trends that will rule 2024 and the crazy tech you can find yourself engrossed with. Let’s get into it, shall we?

1. Generative AI

In 2023 we got glimpses of AI and what it is. In 2024, people will get a grip on AI and will understand it much better on how to make the most of this technology. If in 2023 you were scared of AI taking over the world or the fact that it will replace you from your job, well, fear not! The use of AI almost everywhere from search engines, social media apps etc will make us more familiar with its advantages and its potential to change the way we work.

If used wisely, AI can be your “smart” best friend that minimizes your work pressure by taking over the menial tasks that you despise doing, saving much of your precious time. This will allow you to focus on what you do best as a human, you can focus more on your creativity, analytical thinking, critical thinking and emotional intelligence. So, 2024 could be the year where Generative AI could actually begin being widely accepted & adopted.

2. AI Ethics: From Theory to Practice

There have been many cases in the past where AI tools have generated wrong answers, there also have been times where the answers generated by AI reeked of biases. As AI evolves further and more people start using it in their daily lives, it is important to make sure that the answers that the AI gives are factually right, ethical and free from biases. Not only this, but the issue of who owns the content that AI generates may also be up for open discussion & debates. So, governments and international organizations may be compelled to figure out all of this in 2024, without an option.

3. IoT: Web of Interconnected Devices

The Internet of things is a technology which is used in your smart devices like Alexa, Fitbits, Home Sensor-application, etc. What makes this technology special is that it connects to a wifi and collects information through it to make better predictions and recommendations. It is believed that by 2030 around 50 billion of these devices will be in use around the world.

This will create a web of interconnected devices spanning from your smartphone devices to your home appliances, like how your apple devices are connected with each other. These devices can collect information from you and will help companies make better and informed decisions based on the data.

4. Happy Planet & Sustainable Technology

Technologies like AI, IOT, Blockchain are often making news for the impact they have on the environment. So, it is becoming extremely important to make sure that in the attempt to take humanity further with technology, we do not damage the environment and bring it closer to destruction. So making sure the IT sector is aware and makes sustainable choices that are good for the environment, will be significant.

5. Blockchain & Distributed Ledgers

Blockchain is not just limited to bitcoins and cryptocurrency. It has many applications which can alleviate many businesses. For example: Smart contracts which are self-regulating contracts which will automatically perform actions encoded by the coder after certain parameters are met which are also a part of the code.

Blockchain can automate a lot of work, as there is no requirement of a third party and can also usher in transparency. Blockchain is known for its security and the fact that it is tamper-proof and very hard to hack into because it is consensus-driven and thus, requires no middlemen or mediating parties.
